Glass Pendants

Ruby Fakeacello

This style of pendant is called a "tube implosion".  I take a small section of tubing, heat it up with my torch, and puff it into a bubble.  I then melt color dots and lines to make my designs and patterns.
Once I am finished putting what will be in the pendant, i melt the bubble down into a solid.  The work i did on the bubble then "sinks" into the clear, giving the work depth, as well as some beautiful fading to the colors.

This pendant does not have a solid color backing, which means whatever color that is behind it will be somewhat seen through the front.  The design will be seen no matter what color it is placed on, but subtle color shifts will allow it to blend and match with more colors than if there was a solid color backing on it.
This pattern was drawn on by hand and then melted in.  I call it a "fakeacello" because there is a pattern that looks very similar to this.. but it is done differently, and is called a "reticello".
